OPEN AIR PENINSULA, SELF DRIVE ADVENTURE

One of our favourite suggestions is that you explore the Cape Peninsula, West Coast and the Winelands in our FIAT 500 Convertible. Fold down the roof and feel the balmy breeze blow through your hair as you take in the splendour of Cape Town and her surrounds. Stop for a dip in the tidal pool at St James, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach, venture into the Cape Point Nature reserve and take the roads less travelled (with a little local knowledge from us). Pause for lunch and whale watching in Hermanus or venture up the West Coast to discover some hidden gems. Order your picnic basket at The Trevoyan, and go exploring at your own pace.
We recommend that you book our Fiat well in advance and give us 24 hours notice on your picnic basket.

FRIENDS OF TREVOYAN

Ask and we are happy to help. We have a treasure chest of recommendations, tips and tricks to help you experience the mother city like you’ve lived here for years. We’ll suggest places for lunch and dinner to fit any palate. Visit The V&A Waterfront, Robben Island, The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Chapman's Peak Drive and Table Mountain or take a walking tour through the city and the colourful neighbourhood of the Bo-Kaap. Jump out of a plane, paraglide off Signal Hill, snorkel with seals or take a chopper flip over the peninsula, we’ve done it all and will happily share our insights.

Thali

Thali is a bustling Indian tapas eatery in Gardens, Cape Town. The owner, chef Liam Tomlin, is especially proud of his inspirational venture into the world of Indian cuisine and promises an unforgettable foodie experience. Top Tip: It’s a “first come first served” restaurant so get there early, between 18h00 and 18h30. If it’s good weather choose a table in the outdoor courtyard.

Snorkel with Seals

This is so much fun and a chance to get up-close and personal with some very playful seals in their own habitat. A boat will take you from Hout Bay out to Seal Island, which in itself is a trip that offers breathtaking views of Chapman’s Peak and The Sentinel. You will be kitted out with a mask, snorkel and fins, a wetsuit, hood, gloves and booties. Yes, the water is a bit chilly! If you have your own Go-Pro bring it along, but you are also able to hire one. We’ll be happy to make the bookings for you, just let us know.

The Bailey Brasserie, Tapas and Bar

The Bailey is one of our favourite city restaurants. On the first floor is “The Brasserie” an authentic Parisian Brasserie. It features a menu of iconic continental dishes based on classic French recipes and methods complimented by a superb wine list. After dinner a little nightcap on the 2nd floor, in The Old Bailey Lounge Bar with its outdoor terrace is evocative of top-end members’ clubs and bars in London and New York. Stylish table service offers an extensive whiskey collection, premium wines and cocktails.

For a lunch treat, you might consider the ground floor and Chef’s Warehouse – Tapas. Expect old favourites such as Salt & pepper squid with chilli, pineapple and caramelised ginger; Vietnamese rice paper rolls; and the signature Risotto dish, as well as some exciting new dishes conceptualised by Liam Tomlin and Executive Chef of The Bailey, Asher Abramowitz.

The Blue Cafe

This neighbourhood heirloom has been trading as a café and deli since 1904. With “The Blue” comes a strong emphasis on heritage and engaging with the neighbourhood: the cafe buys fresh produce grown by Tamboerskloof residents, and serves a selection of sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, salads and a very good local Cape Malay classic ; “Bobotie”. The Blue is the ideal place to take a slow walk to, from The Trevoyan, especially if you’ve arrived late in the day and you’re looking for a quick bite. Best of all you’re unlikely to find it in the guidebooks!

Oranjezicht City Farmer's Market

Held every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday (evening) at the historic Granger Bay side of the V&A Waterfront, the OZCF Market is a community, farmers-style, market for independent local farmers and artisanal food producers. Try out some delicious cooked and raw foods, be inspired by the many crafters and sample some beer, wine and juices. Voted one of the top 30 markets on the planet this is a fantastic spot to people watch and it’s a popular meeting place for locals and tourists.

Epice

Brought to you by the team behind La Colombe. Epice – is an intimate fine dining restaurant located at Heritage Square, Franschhoek. Serving an array of delectably curated dishes, the fine-dining restaurant is headed by chef Charné Sampson (previously sous chef at La Colombe), and features a flavour-packed menu. If you’re staying with us at the start of your African adventure and travelling through Franschhoek, this would be our go to recommendation for dinner. We go there as often as we can!
